Nicole Dennis-Benn is the author of HERE COMES THE SUN (Norton/Liveright, July 2016), a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and a 2017 Lambda Literary Award winner and a bestselling sophomore novel, PATSY (Norton/Liveright, June 2019), a 2020 Lambda Literary Award winner.

What & Why
I chose to become a writer because I wanted to see myself reflected in the pages. Too often, Black women's experiences and identities are left within the margins of society. I want to highlight the multifaceted and intersectional identities of Black women's existence. I want to document what it means to be Black, a woman, Caribbean, and queer. I chose to write about these experiences because these working class, Black Caribbean women have heavily influenced my life. The literary cannon is overwhelmingly white and male. I want to tell the stories of women like myself who seek space in the literary canon. I want to dare to go there.

Colors
The primary color is a gradient purple that is similar to the purple on the original website. Nicole has a sentimental connection to the color. The main orange colors are to help tie a connection to the Caribbean sun and bright warm feeling of the island Jamaica. The secondary green colors are shades of the green color Nicole Dennis-Benn always liked while in her school years. All the colors come together to make the website feel alive and embracing.
